The Macedonian Human Rights Movement of Canada has released : REPORT 1996 - Human Rights Violations Against Ethnic Macedonians

he 120 page report details human rights violations by the government of Greece against the ethnic Macedonian minority. All of the information was researched by our members and included numerous interviews with human rights activists in Aegean Macedonia. These included : Anastasios Boulis (Tashko Bulev), member of Macedonian Movement for Balkan Prosperity (MMBP) and the political party "Rainbow" and co-founder of the Macedonian Cultural Center in Florina (Lerin), interviewed January 30, 1996; Traian Pasois, member of MMBP and the political party "Rainbow", interviewed October 11, 1995; Pavlos Voskopoulos, member of the MMBP and the political party "Rainbow", interviewd May 6 and October 11, 1995; Archimandrite Nikodimos Tsarknias, an ethnic Macedonian priest expelled from the Greek Orthodox Church, interviewed February, March, April and October, 1995; Hristos Sideropoulos (Risto Sidovski), President of the Macedonian Human Rights Movement (Greece), based in Florina (Lerin), one of the co-founders of the Macedonian Cultural Center in Florina (Lerin), interviewed February 7, 1995; and, others.

The report comprises 9 selections, including one chapter on each of the following :

  1. the Macedonian Movement for Balkan Prosperity and the Rainbow party;
  2. Sideropoulos, Boulis and the Macedonian Cultural Center;
  3. Archimandrite Tsarknias;
  4. the Association of Refugee Children from the Aegean part of Macedonia and ethnic Macedonian emigrants born in northern Greece (Aegean Macedonia).

The MHRMC also has copies of : The Macedonian Conflict - Ethnic Nationalism in Transnational World, by Loring M Danforth. The book was released in January of 1996.

Danforth is a professor of anthropology at a University in the United States. The first printing run of the book has been sold out. The second run is to be ready for the end of April 1996.

The book is currently available at bookstores for $41.95 + GST (total of $44.89 CDN). Due to a special arrangement with the publisher, the MHRMC is selling copies of the book for only $30.00 CDN.

The book is an in depth study of the Macedonian Greek crisis, including an analysis of Macedonian identity, human rights for Macedonians, recognition of the Republic of Macedonia, etc.
