During the wedding ceremony there is a tradition called "the breaking of the bread" by the bride and groom, and in some cases both fathers of the married couple. Bread is baked the night before the wedding for an event that is more amusing than superstitiuous.
The breaking of the bread, in the case of the bride and groom symbolizes who will "wear the pants in the family" (signifying the dominant partner). Both the bride and groom grab a firm hold of the circular bread in front of the guests. On the count of three both bride and groom pull the bread hoping to obtain the larger of the two pieces. The one with the larger piece will "wear the pants" . A similar display is performed by the father of the bride and the father of the groom, with a similar meaning.
